We are here to walk with you on your spiritual journey, growing together in the love and knowledge of Christ.

Brief History of the Ghana Police Church

In February 1964, some police officers and their families desiring to tap strength from the Lord and wash away the rust and cares of life, met regularly in the home of one of their members for fellowship. Some civilians living in the neighbourhood soon joined the fellowship
As the membership grew, the meeting place was moved to a classroom of the Police Primary School, then later to the Zinc House. Visiting preachers were subsequently invited to officiate services and administer the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. Membership comprised Christians of the mainstream Protestant Churches, and as such no denomination could claim it as its own. The Fellowship was simply described as the “Combined Protestant Church”.
As the fellowship grew, it was later felt that a Minister should be appointed to give the right leadership and be a source of spiritual strength for the Police Force and personnel who were desirous to worshiping there. It then became necessary to seek the recognition of the Church by the Police Administration.
A formal request and a proposal was submitted to the IGP at the time, Mr. J.W.K. Harley, based on some preparatory work done by Mr. Kofi Kwakye, a member of the growing Church and then Staff Officer to the IGP. Following the necessary formalities, and the first Chaplain to the Ghana Police Force, Rev. J.E. Yarquah, was appointed.
Prior to Rev. Yarquah assuming office in 1967, the name of the Church was changed to the Ghana Police Church. The Church at the time worshipped in a hall (at its present location), known as the "little Church". It was felt that the hall was too small, therefore, the need for a permanent church building.
With the support of the entire Congregation at the time, the Police Administration and levies from serving Police personnel, the construction of the Church building began in 1971 on a land allocated by the Department of Parks and Gardens. The Church building was dedicated in September 1973 (by which time Rev. Yarquah had retired as Police Chaplain.)
The Church has since grown to become a model Interdenominational Church with a distinctive tradition of welcoming into its fellowship all who seek the Christian faith. Through this Church, several growing Regional Police Churches have been birthed as satellite churches of the Ghana Police Church, Accra to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of police service personnel nationwide.
Today, we worship in a beautiful, sprawling worship centre where life-changing ministry takes place. You are warmly welcome to the Ghana Police Church, Accra.
Love….! And help each other.
To disciple and equip members as well as the Policing Community to become passionate followers of Jesus Christ, committed to love and service in every area of life through the help of the Holy Spirit.
To fulfil the mandate of “making disciples” by bringing both members and the Policing Community together, leading them to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, and developing them through Biblical Instructions, Mentoring and relational discipleship.
The church’s programs, services, and activities are designed to reflect these values, from worship services to counseling and community outreach.
